HOW THE MATH WORKS

The calculation, in plain terms

The calculator first works out the amount financed: the treatment cost minus any insurance or other funds and any down payment. It then finds the fixed monthly payment that pays that amount off, with interest, over your chosen term.

If your APR is 0%, the amount is divided evenly across the months instead.

monthly rate r = APR ÷ 100 ÷ 12
payment = amount × r ÷ (1 − (1 + r)−months)
total interest = payment × months − amount

This is the standard formula for a fixed-rate loan with equal monthly payments. Real loans may add fees, change rates or calculate interest differently.

WAYS PEOPLE PAY

Common ways to pay for dental implants

These are general categories, not recommendations. Terms vary by provider and lender, so compare written offers.

Payment plan from the practice

Some practices let you pay in installments directly.

Check: whether interest applies, the term, and what happens if you miss a payment.

Third-party healthcare financing

A separate company lends the money and the practice is paid.

Check: the APR, any promotional terms, fees and whether applying involves a credit inquiry.

Personal loan

A loan from a bank, credit union or online lender that you can use for treatment.

Check: the APR, origination fees and any penalty for paying early.

Credit card

Charging treatment to a card you already have.

Check: the card's APR, since it may be higher than other options, and your credit limit.

HSA or FSA funds

Pre-tax health account money may cover some dental expenses.

Check: your plan's rules on what is eligible and any yearly limits.

Dental school clinic

Teaching clinics may charge less, with treatment done by supervised students.

Check: how long treatment takes and what the clinic accepts as payment.

READ THE FINE PRINT

What to check before you agree to financing

A monthly payment that looks manageable can hide a costly total. Ask for the terms in writing and confirm each item below.

  • APR, not just the rate. APR reflects the yearly cost of borrowing, including certain fees.
  • Deferred interest. On some promotions, interest can be charged from the start if the balance is not fully paid by the end of the promotional period.
  • Fees. Ask about origination, late and any other fees.
  • Prepayment. Ask whether paying early costs extra.
  • Total cost. Compare the total you will pay, not only the monthly amount.
  • Credit check. Ask whether applying involves a hard credit inquiry.
FAQS

Dental implant financing: questions answered

Plain answers to common questions about using this calculator.

How is a dental implant financing payment calculated?

The calculator uses the standard amortized loan formula. It divides your APR by 12 to get a monthly rate, then finds the fixed payment that pays off the amount financed over the number of months you choose. If the APR is 0%, the amount is simply divided evenly across the months.

What APR should I enter?

Use the APR from the offer or quote you have received, since APR expresses the yearly cost of borrowing, including certain fees. If you do not have one yet, try a few different values to see how sensitive the payment is. Actual rates depend on the lender, your credit and the term.

Does financing make dental implants cheaper?

No. Financing spreads the cost over time, and if the APR is above 0% you pay interest on top of the treatment price. It can make a large cost more manageable month to month, so compare the total interest as well as the monthly payment.

What is deferred interest?

Some promotional plans charge no interest if the balance is paid in full by the end of the promotional period, but charge interest from the original purchase date on any balance that remains. This calculator does not model deferred interest, so read the terms of any promotion carefully before agreeing.

Can this tell me if I will be approved or what rate I will get?

No. This tool does not check credit, connect to any lender or make any offer. Approval and rates are decided by the lender after you apply.

Can I include insurance or HSA/FSA funds?

Yes. Enter any insurance contribution or other funds you plan to apply as a dollar amount, and the calculator subtracts it before working out the amount financed. Check with your plan for what it will actually cover.

Is the information I enter saved or shared?

The calculator runs entirely in your browser and does not send the numbers you enter anywhere. See our privacy policy for how the rest of the site handles data.
